My glass feels loose in the base — glass lock ring guideUpdated 2 hours ago

Every Hybrid Glass ships with a glass lock ring — a small silicone ring inside the steel base that grips the glass insert and holds it securely in place. It's what creates that satisfying "click" when the glass seats properly. If your glass feels loose, rattles, or doesn't grip the way it used to, the glass lock ring is almost always the answer.

Good news: this is fixable. In most cases we can send you a replacement ring at no charge, and installation takes about 60 seconds. Reach out to our support team and we'll take care of you.

Why might the ring fail?

The glass lock ring is designed to last for years under normal use, but two things can cause it to lose grip:

  1. Missing from the factory — Occasionally a ring doesn't get properly seated before the base ships. If your glass rattled from the very first use, this is likely what happened.
  2. Heat damage over time — The silicone ring is sensitive to prolonged heat. Running the base through the dishwasher, or regularly using it to hold hot drinks, can cause the ring to lose its elasticity and grip.

Care tips to keep your ring gripping like new

Do:

  • Hand wash the steel base with warm, soapy water
  • Rinse and dry after each use
  • Store glass and base separately if not in use for a long time

Avoid:

  • Dishwasher — even on the gentle cycle
  • Hot beverages like coffee, tea, or hot chocolate
  • Soaking the base for extended periods

Note: The glass insert can go in the dishwasher — it's just the steel base and lock ring that need gentle hand washing.

How to replace the glass lock ring yourself

If you receive a replacement ring from us, installation is straightforward. Here's a summary — and we also have a short video that walks through it step by step.

  1. Remove the old or damaged ring from the groove inside the steel base by working it free with your fingers.
  2. Seat one side of the new ring into the groove first, then work your way around the circumference pressing it in evenly.
  3. Press firmly all the way around to ensure the ring is fully and evenly seated — no part should be raised or bunched.
  4. Insert the glass insert and press down gently. You should feel it grip and hold. Give the base a gentle shake to test.

Common questions

Can I buy a replacement ring separately?
Replacement rings aren't sold individually in our store, but our support team can help! Just get in touch and we'll sort you out.

My ring spins when I touch it — is that normal?
Yes! The ring is designed to rotate freely inside the groove. What matters is that it stays in place and holds the glass firmly — spinning is perfectly normal and not a sign of a problem.

Both of my glasses have the issue at the same time — is that a defect?
If both rings failed at around the same time, the most common cause is dishwasher use or hot beverage exposure. If neither of those applies, reach out to us — we'll investigate and make it right.
